Below is a list of frequent questions we have received over the years. If your question is not answered below, please go to the Contact Us page to submit it.

Team Registration Questions:

  1. I already have a team in GWASA.  How do I register my team for next season?

Answers to Team Registration Questions:

  1. I already have a team in GWASA.  How do I register my team for next season?
  2. Go to the Sign-ups page and select “Current Team” from the menu. Fill out and submit the info requested on the form.

  3. I want to register a new team in your league.  How can I do that?
  4. Go to the Sign-ups page and select “New Team” from the menu. Fill out and submit the info requested. Be sure to pay the required, non-refundable deposit. Your registration is not valid until we have the deposit.

  5. How much does it cost?
  6. Please see the appropriate (Spring or Fall) Info page for current costs.

  7. Are referee fees included with the cost?
  8. No.  You pay the referees at the field, in cash, at each game.

  9. Do you provide team jerseys?
  10. No.  We do not provide team jerseys. Sports Minded in Whitinsville, MA is a good place to get shirts.  That is who we use for our Championship T-shirts.

  11. What is the bond fee for?
  12. The bond fee is to cover any possible fines your team may accrue during the season.  These fines are usually for forfeits, as the forfeiting team MUST pay the entire referee fee.  There are also possible fines from sanctions due to red cards and general poor team behavior.

  13. When is the money due?
  14. Please see the appropriate (Spring or Fall) Info page for the appropriate due dates.

  15. Is the roster size limited?
  16. No.  Your roster size is unlimited.  However, you must pay the player fee for every player on the roster.

  17. When are rosters final?
  18. All players on your team MUST sign-up for your roster online.  This deadline is the Wednesday before your third game.  Please check the appropriate (Spring or Fall) Info page for the exact deadline.

  19. Can I add more players after the rosters freeze?
  20. Normally, no. However, if a player on your roster gets injured and can NOT play for the rest of the season we will allow you to replace them. We will remove the injured player from your roster and add the new one. A new player registration fee must be paid for the new player.

  21. I am a player on a team in GWASA.  How do I sign up for my roster?
  22. Go to the Sign-ups page and select the “Team Sign-up” from the menu. Fill out and submit the info on the form and you should be all set.

  23. Can I play on more than one team in GWASA?
  24. No.  We do not allow players to play on more than one team in our league.

Answers to Individual Registration Questions:

  1. Can I register as an individual?
  2. We no longer accept individual registrations.

  3. How can I get on team then? I really want to play!!
  4. Follow the Sign-ups menu and select the Free Agent page. Fill out the request information and submit the form. Captains can access this list when they need players.  They will contact you if interested.

  5. I’d like to contact a Captain directly about joining their team. May I have a list of Captains and their contact information?
  6. Sorry, no. It is our policy to not give out the contact information of our Captains.

Answers to General League Questions:

  1. Where do you play?
  2. We generally play at five facilities:

    • Progin Park in Lancaster
    • Lunenburg High School
    • Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester
    • Bell Hill Park in Worcester
    • Glodis Field in Worcester

    Directions to these facilities can be found on our Field Directions page.

  3. What day do you play?
  4. Our normal game day is Sunday. However, if we have to reschedule games for any reason, you may play the make-up game on a different day, pending field availability.  We will work with the affected teams to determine a mutually agreeable date if this occurs.

  5. What time are the games?
  6. Games can BEGIN anywhere from 8am to 6pm.

  7. What is the level of play?
  8. There is a good mix of talent in our league. It ranges from beginners all the way up to Division 1 College players. Most fall somewhere in the middle.

  9. How many divisions do you have?
  10. We have two divisions:

    • Division 1 - Competitive
    • Division 2 - Competitive/recreational
  11. I’m 35 years old and haven’t played since college. Is this the right league for me?
  12. Yes. As mentioned previously, there is a wide range of talent in our league and you should be just fine.

  13. How many teams do you have?
  14. Presently (4/10/09) we have 20 teams:

    • Division 1: Eight teams
    • Division 2A: Six teams
    • Division 2B: Six teams
  15. Are you affiliated with the Massachusetts State Soccer Association(MASS Soccer)?
  16. Yes. This affiliation provides the following for our players:

    • Secondary medical insurance in case of injury during a game
    • Affiliation with the USASA (United States Amatuer Soccer Association)
    • Ability for teams and players to enter National Tournaments (think US Open Cup)
    • Ability for players to try-out for State-wide select teams.
  17. What happens if I get injured during a game?
  18. Our affiliation with MASS Soccer provides secondary medical insurance for each registered player.  If this occurs, contact us and we’ll send you the forms.

  19. How many women and men must be on the field to field a full-side of 11 players?
  20. There is a maximum of seven(7) men allowed on the field at any given time. Therefore, to field a full-side of 11 players, your team needs at least four(4) women on the field.

  21. Can my team play with more than four women on the field?
  22. Yes. Teams may play with more than four women on the field. The key point is that your team can not play with more than seven men on the field.

  23. Can I field a full-side of 11 women?
  24. No.  This is a coed league.  At least one guy must be on the field.

  25. What happens if my team shows up with nine(9) men and two(2) women?
  26. Your team plays with only nine(9) players on the field for the entire game: seven(7) men and two(2) women. You will have two(2) substitutes for the men.  Under NO circumstances is any team allowed to play with more than seven(7) men on the field.

  27. What is the minimum number of players to field a team?
  28. Seven. Of these seven at least one MUST be a woman. If not, the game is a forfeit (with all associated forfeiture fines).

  29. Who pays the referee fees in case of a forfeit?
  30. The forfeiting team pays the ENTIRE referee fee.

  31. How many games are there in a season?
  32. Seven games, plus playoffs and consolations games.

  33. It’s snowing outside.  How do I find out if my game is canceled?
  34. We post any game cancellations on our home page no later than one to two hours before the first start time of the day.

  35. Do game shirts have to be numbered?
  36. Yes. However, the referee is allowed some discretion in handling this requirement.

  37. My team won the playoffs.  What do we win?
  38. Traditionally we award t-shirts to the winning teams.  Please let us know if you have some other suggestions.

  39. What equipment should I have if I am scheduled for field setup/takedown?
  40. The equipment you have varies by the field. For:

    • Bell Hill and QCC (grass fields)
      • Step-stool
      • Net bag with TWO (2) nets inside
      • A corner flag bag containing four (4) corner flags with spikes on the bottom for inserting into the ground
    • Lunenburg (turf fields)
      • A corner flag bag containing four (4) corner flags with heavy, weighted discs on the bottom for setting on top of the ground.
    • Glodis (grass field)
      • A corner flag bag containing four (4) corner flags with spikes on the bottom for inserting into the ground
  41. What do I do if some of this equipment is missing or broken?
  42. Contact us immediately if any of the equipment is missing or broken. We have spares of most of the equipment and can order new pieces if not.

  43. What do I do if my team is scheduled for field setup/takedown?
  44. This depends upon the field that your team is scheduled for. There is no setup or takedown involved at the Lancaster fields.  For

    • Bell Hill and QCC setup:
      • Remove the nets from the net bag.
      • Spread out the nets and lift them over the goals.
      • Attach the nets to the goals using the straps on the nets. Use the step-stool to reach the crossbar.
      • Clip the net bag to one of the nets to prevent it from blowing away.
      • Remove the corner flags from the bag.
      • Insert them into the ground at the corners of the field.
    • Bell Hill and QCC takedown:
      • Remove the nets from the goals and place them into the net bag.
      • Remove the four corner flags from the ground and place them into the flag bag. If this is a set with spikes on the bottom, be sure you have all four spikes.
      • Take the flags and nets home with you so that you have them for the following week when you setup the field.
    • Lunenburg setup:
      • Remove the corner flags from the bag.
      • Remove the weighted discs from the bag.
      • Place the discs at the corners of the field.
      • Place the flags into the discs.
    • Lunenburg takedown:
      • Remove the corner flags from the discs.
      • Collect all four corner flags and discs.
      • Place each of them into the bag.
      • Take them home with you so that you have them for the following week when your team sets up the field.
    • Glodis setup:
      • Remove the corner flags from the bag.
      • Insert the flags into the field at the corners
    • Glodis takedown:
      • Remove the corner flags from the field.
      • If this is a set with spikes, be sure that you have the spikes on the bottom.
      • Collect all four corner flags and spikes.
      • Place each of them into the bag.
      • Take them home with you so that you have them for the following week when your team sets up the field.

  2. No.  We only play in the Spring and Fall.

  3. Do you have an Indoor league?
  4. No.  However, checkout Teamworks if you’re interested in playing indoor soccer.

  5. Do you have any tournaments?
  6. Not yet.

  7. I want to play in a Men’s only or a Women’s only league. Do you know of any?
